Inferolateral Window of the Knee (Lateral Eye of the Knee)

This is a supplement to page 57-58 of The Resident’s Manual of Ultrasound-Guided Procedures.

You wouldn’t normally do this injection under ultrasound, but a student asked me if I can show them what it looks like.

At the top of the image:

  • patella and patellar tendon

  • infrapatellar fat pad

  • joint capsule (brightly hyperechoic line at 2.4 cm)

At the bottom of the image:

  • needle (visible momentarily at 2.7 cm)
